Pierre Devos
Pierre Devos (1917-1972) was a Belgian painter, sculptor and ceramicist.
He received his artistic education at the Academy of Tournai and at Ter Kameren in Brussels.
First influenced by the Flemish expressionist Constant Permeke (1886-1952), who was his step-father, Pierre Devos' work later evolved into a stylized design and clean lines. His works were described as : sober, serene, poetic, clear and tender. He preferred figures, nudes and portraits.
From 1945 to 1970, he often exhibited individually in Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Kortrijk, Leuven and Ostend, among others. He also exhibited abroad : Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, etc.
His works can be seen in the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art (SMAK) in Ghent, the Constant Permeke Provincial Museum in Jabbeke, the Beaux-Arts Museum in Tournai, the Palais Provincial de Namur, etc.
