Naomi Okuya was born in Ishikawa in 1930. She is a graduate of the Kanazawa College of Art. Okuya lived in Paris from 1965–1982. In 1965, she began to participate in the Biennale de Paris, and from there displayed her works at international art exhibitions and print exhibitions throughout Europe.Her works have been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions in Japan and abroad.
Her major solo exhibitions include Galerie le Zodiaque, Belgium (1967-1970); “The Twenty-four Hinges,” Tokyo University College of Arts and Sciences Museum of Art (1969); Climaises Ventadour, France (1971); Ado Gallery, Belgium (1975); Ginza Jiyugaoka Gallery, Tokyo (1982); Matsukeyakido Museum, Toyota (1981); Il Tempo, Tokyo (1991); Komatsu City Msueum, Gifu (1999); Gallery Yume, Tokyo (2008-2009); and “Naomi Okuya Exhibition,” Hanbara Hanga Museum, Gifu (2015); among others.
