Artist Bio – Jan TousseynBorn in Bruges, Jan Tousseyn is a retired interior designer whose transition into the visual arts reveals a profound sensitivity to form, atmosphere, and emotion. After completing his academic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bruges and spending seven years studying painting and drawing at the Izegem Academy, Tousseyn developed a distinctive painterly language that merges figuration with expressive abstraction.
His work has been exhibited in various successful shows, including in Roeselare and Izegem, where it has been praised for its emotional resonance and technical precision.
In his recent series, Tousseyn explores the abandoned portrait within an abstracted vision of nature—a haunting dialogue between human fragility and the untamed world. The faces he paints seem both eroded and alive, suspended between decay and rebirth, surrounded by vibrant yet unsettling organic forms.
This tension captures what Tousseyn describes as “the cry necessary to preserve this piece of beauty in the future”—a reflection on humanity’s desperate plea for harmony with the natural world before it fades beyond repair.
