Curator and gallery owner Kris De Meester is also a filmmaker, ever since he was 12 years of age. At the time he was inspired by Steven Spielberg and made the sci-fi short film "The Visitor" on Super 8 film. A story about aliens trying to invade the world. Over the decades, he has teamed up with numerous award-winning directors. Such included established names like Lars von Trier, Terence Davies, Thomas Vinterberg, Timo Vuorensola, Wolfgang Becker, Philippe Grandrieux, and Koen Mortier.
When launching his art gallery Alfred Sküll Art Gallery and later Artyish.com he already had specific ideas on how to reach his target audience. By hosting the Obskuur Ghent Film Festival at the gallery he was able to connect film lovers to his gallery. It was clear that the audience of alternative film festivals do like a piece of art now and then. This inspired Kris De Meester to launch a global campaign through The Bigger Screen, a social platform for new voices in the cinema industry.
Currently Artyish.com is sponsoring 18 film festivals worldwide, from the Hong Kong Arthouse Film Festival over the Sydney World Film Festival, Brussels Independent Film Festival, Venice Film Week, Super Shorts Film Festival, Boston Short Film Festival... to The Producer's Night in Los Angeles.
